The year 2023 has been exciting for our firm as we focused and dedicated our resources on clients and product diversification:

• Market Presence - Our firm managed to keep up with expansion efforts in Africa. Following the 2022 opening of offices in Cameroon and Nigeria, we are now fully staffed in both countries and ready to contribute for the increase of insurance penetration in the continent. Some topics of interest and significant R&D include:
  • IFRS 17 implementation and readiness assessment
  • Reinsurance optimization
  • Valuation of employment benefit plans
• Innovation - Our sister firm and technology startup SL DRA managed to submit a proposal to assist various insurance regulators in Africa with data & analytics solutions
• Diversification - Our firm pursued several new ventures, including but not limited to the following:
  • Appointed actuary (and peer review) services
  • Loss reserve analyses
  • Feasibility study for setting new reinsurance company in Mauritious or Florida
  • Florida risk-focused financial examinations
  • Florida product development and state filing expert services
  • Actuarial valuation of Nigeria pension plans (e.g., gratuity, long service awards, etc.)
  • Statistical agent for emerging markets (SL DRA platform)
• Education - Our firm volunteers with the Nigerian Actuarial Society, the American Academy of Actuaries and the International Insurance Institute in Cameroon

Overall, SL FINANCIAL managed to increase its presence in Africa and the Caribbean, while contributing to actuarial education and insurance innovation.
